Privitizing the blogosphere...

I've noticed that a lot of you bloggers have been going private. Can someone please tell me what, exactly, can a creepy person take from your blog? I'm not being cynical here, I really want to know. I like the idea of our blog being public because we have found and been found by several people that we normally wouldn't have ever talked to again, and it's been quite pleasant. I don't want to have to buy lifelock or anything, but I figure as long as we're not posting our SSN, address, or other personal stuff we'd be OK. Am I wrong?

Personally, I am not worried about people stealing my identity, rather predators, and the likes having all to much info on my family. (ie where we live, names, schools attended, common places we go, etc) I am actually a pretty paranoid person in this aspect, so for me I would rather be private than have someone I havent talked to in years be able to find me. I've been wondering the same thing. Until Little gets bigger I am not too concerned about predators, but I definitely think going private is something to consider with older kids. Since you're already using pseudonyms ("Jeff" and "Abby"? Come on, guys. No one's going to buy that), you're probably pretty safe.

I dont' think that a predator would look on blogger but you never know! I used a wonderful address so people can't just search for me through google. Plus people can see comments on anyone's blog and if they really want to find me...and go through all the trouble...I guess it was important!

I guess the the guys at Eric's work got after him for not protecting his family... Being a police officer the older guys have seen some crazy things. Internet crimes are the worse.

It isn't been an identity stealing issue. It's been a predator issue. But as long as you are aware of what you are posting, I really don't think it will evolve into anything.

I personally know a girl that would post about her days, sometimes to the point of which park they were going to, when, her address when inviting people to a blogger party, etc. And she actually DID have a man that started following her. Calling her children by name, etc. So it DOES happen - but she was obviously a doof about what she was posting. So my vote is, just have a little common sense and you'll be fine!

I'm with the majority of people. I try to be aware of what I'm posting and realize it is in public view. I try to keep specifics out and I try to keep the pics clean.

A few weeks back I had someone hit my blog after doing a google search for "cutie pies". That was a little disturbing.

Does anyone know how to lock the pics so that no one can take copy and save them off your blog?

If you find out how to lock pictures, I really want to know!
